Back up and restore

Reset your device
A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. It doesn't delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.
Master reset with settings menu
- Back up all data on the internal memory.
- Turn off automatic backup, because it may make your issues return after the reset:
- From the Home screen, press Menu.
- Touch Settings.
- Touch Privacy.
- Verify that both the Backup my settings and Automatically restore check boxes are cleared.
- From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
- Touch Settings.
- Touch SD& phone storage.
- Touch Factory data reset.
- Touch Reset phone.
- Touch Erase everything. The phone turns off and back on.
Master reset with hardware keys
If the device menus are frozen or unresponsive, you can master reset using hardware keys.
- Back up all data on the internal memory.
- If the phone is plugged into the charger or USB cable, unplug it.
- Remove the battery. Removing the battery is required. Turning off the phone with the Power key does not work, because of the Fast Boot feature.
- Re-insert the battery.
- Press and hold both the Volume Down key and the Power key.
- Release the Power key but do not release the Volume key.
- Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen. The following options dsplay:
- FASTBOOT
- RECOVERY
- FACTORY RESET
- SIMLOCK
- IMAGE CRC
- If you are stuck on a screen that says 'HBOOT' and 'FASTBOOT' without any other options to choose from, it means you have pressed the Back button. To get to the regular options, press either the Power key on HBOOT or the Back button.
- Press the Volume Down key twice to select FACTORY RESET.
- Press the Power key to initiate the master reset.
- Wait as the device displays the bootup screen, then shows a picture of arrows above a device with a progress bar. It then restarts.
- To skip the introduction video so you can continue troubleshooting or using the phone, press the Back button.

This device supports a standard size SIM card.

- Lift the back cover to remove it.
- Lift the battery out of the compartment to remove it.
- Slide the SIM card into the SIM card slot.
- Insert the battery and align the gold contacts on the battery with the gold contacts inside the phone. Lower the battery into position.
- Insert the back cover into the slots and press the back cover down until it clicks into place.
Memory card
- Lift the back cover to remove it.
- Insert the memory card into the memory card holder with the gold contacts facing down. Push it in until it clicks into place.
- Insert the back cover into the slots and press the back cover down until it clicks into place.

Change band
- From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
- Touch Settings.
- Touch Wireless & networks.
- Touch Mobilenetworks.
- Touch Network Mode.

- From the Home screen, press the Menu key.

- If necessary, touch the Wi-Fi check box to turn on and view Wi-Fi networks.

APN settings
- If you have a battery saver app, check its settings. Some battery saver apps disable the APNs or data connection when the battery level gets low. You need to adjust these settings or uninstall the app to keep the data connection working
- From the Home screen, press the Menu key.
- Touch Settings.
- Touch Wireless & networks.
- Verify that the Airplane Mode or Flight Mode check box is cleared.
- If you see a Mobile Network check box, verify it is selected.
- Touch Mobile Networks.
- If you see the following check boxes, verify they are selected:
- Data Enabled
- Use Packet Data
- Data Roaming This will incur charges if you roam internationally, but it is required to receive data when roaming domestically.
- Touch Access Point Names or APNs.
- Press the Menu key.
- Touch Reset to default.
- Press the Home key.
- Verify the person sending the message does NOT use dashes in the number or saved in contacts. For example: 5552223333 is ok, but not 555-222-3333.
- Test your data connection, by accessing a web page or sending a picture message (MMS).

ONLY if the above steps did not correct the settings, then verify the APN settings:
- Open the Access Point Names or APNs. menu (in steps above)
- If there is a T-Mobile APN, touch it. If not, press the Menu key, and touch New APN.
- Verify and update the following settings for the Data APN:
- Name: T-Mobile
- APN: epc.tmobile.com or fast.t-mobile.com (for LTE devices)
- Proxy: <Not set>
- Port: <Not set>
- Username: <Not set>
- Password: <Not set>
- Server: <Not set>
- MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
- MMS proxy: <Not set>
- MMS port: <Not set>
- MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
- MCC: 310
- MNC: 260
- Authentication type:<Not set>
- APN type: <Not Set> OR Internet+MMS (depending on software version)
- Press the Menu key.
- Touch Save.
- In the list of APNs, delete all others that may appear. If there is a FOTA APN, you may leave that one. To do this:
- Touch the APN you want to delete.
- Press the Menu key.
- Touch Delete APN.
- Verify that there is a circle next to the one remaining APN to show it is activated.
- Perform a soft reset.
- Test your data connection, by accessing a web page or sending a picture message (MMS) to yourself.
